This is a tiny ant with body length of about 1 millimetre. Visually, they come in 2 sizes; one with large head and a much larger size body called the major worker, and one with a standard head size and smaller in size known as minor worker.
In the left picture below, 3 minor workers had caught a Cocoa Black Ant (Dolichoderus thoracicus), which was more than double their size. In the right picture below, the black, long-legged ant was a Black Crazy Ant (Paratrechina longicornis) that happened to come into close proximity with the little red ants. The black ant was almost double the size of the red ants.
There was one ant colony in my pot. In June 2016, I observed a nuptial flight where winged ants started to emerge from the entrance to the ant nest under the ground. The yellow arrows in the picture below point to the location of the winged ants.
